Not since the heady days of car phones and pop-up headlights have we seen a BMW 8 Series, but the luxury coupe is back and looking good.
BMW released the first teaser image of the BMW 8 Series Coupe Concept at its Annual General Meeting today in Munich.
“The 8 Series Coupe will underpin our claim to leadership in the luxury segment. I can tell you today that this will be a true luxury sports coupe,” said Harald Krüger, chairman of BMW’s board of management.
So far the company has only released a sketch of the new 8 Series’ rather handsome lines, but back in January, we caught a big BMW Coupe winter testing.
Back then we weren’t sure if it was a new 6 Series or an 8 Series, but with production of the 6 Series coupe quietly ending back in February, it’s now a pretty safe bet that this is what the 8 Series Coupe will look like.
BMW has already trademarked the names 850, 860, M860, and M8, so that ought to give you an idea of what the Bavarians have in mind for the 8 Series.
