The BMW X7 has begun testing on the Nurburgring.
The full-size SUV looks to be getting closer to the final stages of development, with engineers pushing the limits of the prototype on the track. The BMW X7 will ride on the CLAR architecture that made its debut on latest new 7 Series, but it has been stretched and reinforced to support the large SUV’s body. The prototype is still wearing heavy camouflage, but we can see it is poised to compete with the other range-topping luxury SUVs in the market, like the Mercedes-Benz GLS and larger Range Rover models.

Look for six- and eight-cylinder engines to power the BMW X7 once it arrives sometime next year. Since it is riding on the CLAR platform, it’s a possibility BMW will outfit it with a plug-in hybrid powertrain as well.
The German automaker has confirmed the BMW X7 will be produced at its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina starting next year, so it will likely arrive as a 2019 model.
