BMW Recalls 1.4M Vehicles for a Variety of Issues

BMW has recalled a total of 1.4 million vehicles in North America in two separate recall campaigns. 

The first recall affects about 670,000 3 Series vehicles in North America. The issue is related to wiring issues for the HVAC system, which may cause it to overheat and catch fire. The German automaker first received reports of the problem in 2008, when a 2006 3 Series sedan suffered heat-related damage. According to , the automaker continued to investigate the matter in the following years.

The second recall campaign affects 740,000 cars total. It affects 2007-2011 model year 128i, 3 Series, 5 Series and Z4 vehicles. The issues can be traced to a valve heater that may lead to a fire in rare scenarios. BMW first received reports of the problem in 2007, but no injuries or crashes related to the issue have been reported.

In both recalls, dealers will reach out and repair the vehicles as necessary.
