BMW M2 Competition Coming to the US Next Year, Document Indicates

A leaked internal document has revealed a BMW M2 Competition model will arrive in North America in 2018.

The leaked document is actually the same one that revealed the new Toyota Supra would be offered with four- and six-cylinder engines and wouldn’t be offered with a manual transmission. did some extra digging, however, and found mention of an M2 Competition for the U.S. buried within it. The car will be rear-wheel drive and will be offered with both six-speed manual and seven-speed DCT transmissions, the document indicates.

We’re expecting the Competition to feature the same N55 single turbo inline-six found in the standard M2, but with slightly more power on tap – perhaps around 380 horsepower.  Like the M3 and M4 Competition, we’re also anticipating it will have a revised suspension setup and a retuned differential, among other improvements.

A BMW M2 CS is rumored to be in the works as well. It will apparently adopt the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six found in the M3 and M4, but it will make slightly less power at around 400 horsepower. Slotting in above that is the rumored M2 GTS, which would boast the 444 horsepower version of the 3.0-liter found in the M4 GTS. It’s not clear if all of these models will indeed arrive, as they have only been rumored, but it would be strange for BMW to introduce three different high-performance versions of the M2, in our opinion.

While it’s unclear if the M2 CS and M2 GTS will materialize, the document all but confirms an M2 Competition is on the cards.
