BMW Confirms Electrified M Models are Coming

How does BMW M Hybrid sound to you?

Along with confirming an all-electric, four-door sedan concept will debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW announced it aims to have 25 electrified models available by 2025 and one of them will be an M model. Of those 25 electrified vehicles, at least 12 will be fully electric.

“We will be increasing the share of electrified models across all brands and model series,” said BMW chairman Harald Krüger. “And, yes, that also includes the Rolls-Royce brand and BMW M vehicles. Furthermore, we are currently gearing all BMW Group plants towards e-mobility. In the future, we will be able to equip all our models with every drivetrain.”

This shouldn’t come as a major surprise, as BMW has hinted at the idea in the past with Dirk Hacker, BMW M’s vice president for engineering, even saying “it could be inevitable.” Considering BMW has invested heavily into its i sub-brand towards an electrified future, it’s only a matter of time before the performance-oriented M models benefit with increased efficiency and power.
