BMW 8 Series Concept is Sexy in So Many Ways

The BMW 8 Series Concept has officially debuted and it looks sexy in so many ways.

The slinky concept previews a production model due out in 2018. The concept will make its official debut at the 2017 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, and BMW says it is “the essence of a modern-day BMW coupe wrapped up in an enthralling design study.” But not only does the concept preview the upcoming new BMW model, it showcases that future of the German automaker’s design language, displaying new design ideas and form-building techniques.

Featuring a long hood and a flowing roofline, the BMW 8 Series Concept is low slung and elegant, with a large kidney grille up front, flanked by slim twin headlights and large air intakes for a sporty appearance. The concept is finished in an exclusively developed paint called Barcelona Grey Liquid, which sports a greyish-blue hue with highly iridescent pigments. Large 21-inch alloy wheels fill up the wells, featuring a sporty and exclusive multi-design and aero elements that BMW says generate visual depth.

The rear of the concept confirms it’s rear-wheel drive, with the powerful arches hinting at the car’s dynamic talents. There are slim, stretched-out lights that extend far into the sides of the car, providing a connection between the rear and flanks. The lower section of the rear apron boasts a stylish carbon fiber diffuser, while large trapezoidal exhaust tips finish off the design.

As expected, the interior packs plenty of luxury, but it’s the design that gives us a glimpse of what BMW has planned for the future of all its models. There’s a fluid transition from the instrument panel into the doors, an impression that’s further reinforced by the connection between the center console and instrument panel. The exclusive sports seats feature a slim design and the carbon fiber shell hints at the model’s sportiness. Merino leather in Dark Brown and Fjord White were used, while accent surfaces are finished in carbon fiber and hand-polished aluminum. But helping make it truly special is a faceted ground gearshift lever and an iDrive controller made from Swarovski glass with a smoky quartz appearance.

“The number 8 has always represented the pinnacle of sports performance and exclusivity at BMW,” explains chairman of the board of management of BMW AG Harald Krüger. “The forthcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe will demonstrate that razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury can go hand-in-hand. This will be the next model in the expansion of our luxury-car offering and will raise the benchmark for coupes in the segment. In the process, we will strengthen our claim to leadership in the luxury class.”

The new BMW 8 Series Coupe is set to launch in 2018.
