Audi's Space Rover to Star in Next 'Alien' Movie

People often say that you should shoot for the moon, because even if you miss you’ll land among the stars. Never has that been truer than in Audi’s case.

That’s because Audi’s moon rover is set to be a star in the latest installment of Ridley Scott’s Alien series, .

“The ‘Alien’ franchise is the best way for us to garner suitable attention for the moon rover developed by Audi, and to showcase Audi’s intelligent technologies in a visionary environment,” said Giovanni Perosino, VP of International Marketing Communication at Audi.

To give everyone an idea of just what the Quattro Rover will look like on screen, Twentieth Century Fox created a short film (embedded above) featuring the rover patrolling the Terraforming Bay of the colonization vessel.

The rover won’t just be a prop in the background, either. It plays an important part in the movie, helping its protagonist assess the challenging landscape on a planet on the far side of the galaxy. Much like in the movie, though, the Quattro Rover will be taking pictures of the surface of the moon for scientific study in real life, and will even seek to photograph the original lunar rover from 1972.

When it leaves earth for the moon, the Quattro Rover will be the first private mission to the moon, but it will be collaborating with NASA, the European Space Agency, and even Wikipedia.

The rover is built by “Part Time Scientists,” a group of engineers from Berlin. Audi helped the group out with its AWD technology and helped to find the best lightweight materials for the rover.

The Quattro Rover mission has been in the works since 2015, and Audi says that the mission will take off very soon.
