Aston Martin’s new V12-powered hypercar now has a real name: Valkyrie.
Continuing the tradition of ‘V’ names on Aston Martins, such as Vanquish and Vulcan, the new Valkyrie is a result between Aston and Red Bull Racing, with famed F1 designer Adrian Newey taking the reins on this project. When the car first debuted, it came with the name AMRB-001, which many thought was pretty boring.
The name Valkyrie is derived from Norse mythology and literally translates to “chooser of the slain.” The Valkyries were female goddesses who would choose which men would live and die in battle.

Exact details and specs for the hypercar are still in the dark, though some information has been revealed. It uses a lightweight carbon fiber tub, a naturally aspirated V12, will have a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1 and will pack a host of F1-inspired technology. The engine will be able to rev up to 11,000 rpm, while horsepower will be over 1,000, and the aerodynamics will be intense. It’s safe to say this is a high-performance machine, with the zero-to-200-mph run expected to take about 10 seconds.
Aston has already said that just 150 units, including prototypes, street-legal and track-only versions, will be built in total, and nearly each one has already been spoken for. Pricing details haven’t been announced, but it won’t be cheap, with rumors putting the number at $3-million.
