Another Italian-Designed Electric Sedan from China Will Debut Soon

Italian automotive designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and his company will unveil a new all-electric sedan concept at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

The project is in collaboration with Chinese energy management company Envision, and it will feature autonomous driving capability. Giugiaro told  the concept was designed for users who are soon destined to be driven around by the car itself. “The technology would have allowed me to eliminate the steering wheel, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it,” said Giugiaro.

Along with autonomous capability, Giugiaro says the sedan will offer “unique and innovative” solutions on ergonomics and ease of use. The new concept uses Envision’s energy management technology, allowing the car to connect to a broader energy ecosystem to take advantage of real-time computing and data analysis to control how, where, and when devices produce, store, and use energy.

This is actually Giugiaro’s second concept from his new company, GFG Style, which stands for Giorgetto Fabrizio Giugiaro. Along with Giorgetto himself, the company includes his son Fabrizio, both of which severed ties with the Volkswagen Group in 2015, after selling the remaining part of their Italdesign company to Audi. GFG Style’s first concept was the Techrules Ren electric supercar that debuted at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
