Amazon's The Grand Tour Proves it Still has that Top Gear Sense of Humor

is having a hell of an off-season.

Filming for the second series of  was seemingly going well until Richard Hammond crashed the Rimac Concept One. After Hammond made headlines, co-host Jeremy Clarkson followed with reports saying he very nearly died from pneumonia. And now Amazon Instant Video is having a bit of fun at the show’s expense, although it’s more likely a recent ad for a temporary TV host comes straight from .

“Amazon Prime Video is seeking a host for an original TV series to be seen around the world,” the job application reads. “Currently, this is a temporary position to cover an absence due to pneumonia.”

While there’s a good chance this application is really seeking a temporary host to fill Clarkson’s shoes for some of the segments that haven’t been filmed, reading the rest of the application just how serious it really is. For starters, the “basic qualifications” listed include a valid driver’s license, which is easy enough, British English including advanced qualification in exaggeration and braggadocio, and at least 6.5+ million followers on Twitter or similar social media network. The preferred qualification is really the kicker: “The successful applicant will be required to wear vast amounts of pre-washed denim (attire provided in sizes that are slightly too small).”

Clearly the application is poking fun of Clarkson and the “team of variously sized co-hosts” from . The rest of the application is worth a read since it’s pretty humorous, especially if you follow the trio’s antics on screen. One of the responsibilities listed reads “This role will work closely with the existing hosts, with duties including (but not limited to) accidentally setting things on fire, handling heavy machinery (badly) and being able to bloody-mindedly argue a point that no one will ever agree.” Anyone else read that in James May’s voice?

We actually wouldn’t be surprised if someone applied and managed to impress the show, landing themselves a guest spot on one of the episodes. It’s definitely something the trio would do.
