Now that BMW has introduced the new X3, Alpina won’t be far behind with its high-performance versions.
Spy photographers have caught the new Alpina XD3 testing near the Nurburgring, likely powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six diesel engine paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The current Alpina XD3 offers 350 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, so expect the new model to be similar if not better.
Unfortunately the Alpina XD3 is not a model offered in North America, so those wanting a more powerful BMW X3 model will have to wait for the M variant from the German automaker.

So far, the prototypes Alpina has been testing feature minor changes to the crossover’s styling, which is normal for Alpina models. The semi-official BMW tuner doesn’t go overboard when it comes to tweaks, focusing on fine-tuning what is already existing rather than producing something wild and extreme.
A likely debut for the Alpina XD3 will be next year’s Geneva Motor Show, where Alpina often has a strong presence.
