2019 Mustang Bullitt Races Into Detroit With Sinister Looks and 475 HP V8

The 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt has made its debut in Detroit, reviving the iconic model variant with a 475 horsepower 5.0-liter V8 and menacing exterior looks.

The Mustang Bullitt’s arrival in 2018 is intended to mark the 50th anniversary of the famous Steve McQueen film Bullitt. Under the hood is a retuned version of Ford’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8, which is making 475 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to help this movie-inspired special edition nudge 163 mph – 8 mph faster than the standard Mustang GT. The only transmission option is a six-speed manual, which is shifted with a slick-looking new cueball gear knob. Brembo brakes with red brake calipers come standard as well.

What really sets the Bullitt apart from your standard GT are the looks. Heavily inspired by the movie car, the Bullitt features a badgeless black grille framed in chrome, ‘torque-thrust’ 19-inch gloss black wheels and a rear Bullitt badge. It will be available in two colors only: Shadow Black, and Dark Highland Green, the latter of which is the same shade worn by the movie car.

The Mustang Bullitt also comes well equipped with both Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package content as standard. Optional equipment includes MagneRide suspension, Recaro seats and the Bullitt Electronics Package, which adds navigation, memory seats and mirrors, an upgraded sound system, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.

“When making a Bullitt, there are certain things it absolutely must have,” said Mustang program engineer Carl Widmann. “It has to have the right attitude, it has to be unique in some way from a Mustang GT, and more than anything, it has to be bad ass.”

The 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt will go on sale sometime later this year. Pricing has yet to be announced, but you can expect it to slot in between the $35,000 Mustang GT and $57,000 Shelby GT350.
