2018 Mazda CX-9 Adds New Standard Tech Features

Pricing for the updated 2018 Mazda CX-9 crossover has been announced today.

The 2018 Mazda CX-9 starts from $33,070 including destination and will go on sale nationwide in the U.S. this month. The CX-9 improves on the 2017 model with an updated second row for greater comfort and easier third-row access, along with greater sound insulation. All models receive Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) for the first time, which automatically applies the brakes in emergency situations below 19 mph. In addition, Blind Sport Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are now standard on the three-row crossover.

The Japanese automaker has also added its industry-exclusive G-Vectoring Control (GVC) technology to the 2018 CX-9. According to Mazda, GVC uses the engine in conjunction with steering and throttle inputs to minutely reduce engine torque, putting more weight on the front wheels and making the steering feel more linear and direct.

The entry-level Mazda CX-9 Sport comes standard with cloth upholstery, LED headlights and tail lights, 18-inch wheels, an electronic parking brake, Mazda Connect infotainment with a seven-inch screen, and Bluetooth audio streaming and phone pairing. There’s a new Sport Package available for $1,290 that adds auto on/off headlights, High Beam Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane-Keep Assist, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Smart Brake Support, rain-sensing wipers, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat.

The CX-9 Touring, which starts from $35,900 adds leather seating surfaces, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink garage door opener, power liftgate, Advanced Keyless Entry, and an eight-inch Mazda Connect screen. The model also gains the addition of a tilt function on the driver’s seat and power passenger seat with lift and lumbar support. Available on the CX-9 Touring is the Touring Premium Package that includes LED fog lights, navigation, Bose 12-speaker Premium audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio with a four-month subscription, rear parking sensors, new front parking sensors, sunroof, retractable sunshades in the second-row doors, and a moonroof. The package costs $1,890.

Stepping up to the CX-9 Grand Touring model will cost $41,410 and adds 20-inch wheels, Adaptive Front-lighting System, aluminum interior trim, Active Driving Display head-up unit with new Traffic Sign Recognition, roof rails, and a memory driver’s seat. All-new features on the CX-9 Grand Touring include heated second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, and windshield wiper de-icer.

At the top of the range is the CX-9 Signature that is only available with all-wheel drive and is priced from $45,255. The CX-9 Signature features Auburn-colored Nappa leather, rosewood trim supplied by premium Japanese guitar maker Fujigen, and LED signature grille along with LED interior lighting.

All-wheel drive is available on all other models for $1,800 additional.

“Mazda CX-9 is designed to provide peace of mind through its i-ACTIVSENSE safety technology suite and its passive features like a strong, lightweight SKYACTIV-BODY. The secondary benefit to its structure is that also helps it deliver uncommonly good, surefooted driving dynamics,” said Tetsu Nakazawa, CX-9 vehicle line manager, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO). “Families trust us to build vehicles that not only surprise and delight with how they drive but also with the engineering excellence that goes into making them, showing that there’s no need to compromise between needs and wants in a seven-passenger people-hauler.”
