The 2018 Buick Regal Sportback may spawn a performance GS model with a 3.6-liter V6 and torque vectoring all-wheel drive.
According to the Summer 2017 issue of Buick’s , a 2018 Regal GS will eventually arrive with General Motors’ 310 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine under the hood. Joining the more powerful engine in the mid-size sedan will be continuously variable dampers and Buick’s “Interactive Drive Control” mode select system with Sport, Touring and GS modes. All-wheel drive with torque vectoring looks as though it will also be on the cards.
Buick pulled the veil from its all-new, Opel-derived Regal Sportback earlier this year. The only motor offered in the mid-size sedan when it goes on sale will be GM’s 250 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, so if this rumor rings true, the performance-minded GS may be the only Regal offered with a six-cylinder.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard of the V6 Regal GS. Back in April, came across a paragraph on the Regal Sportback’s landing page on Buick Canada’s website reading:
“Engineered to make getting there all the fun, the all-new Regal’s excellent driving performance is something to be experienced with available new powertrain and AWD system (3.6L V6 on GS and Twin Clutch AWD).”
We’ve also gotten a look at what the Regal GS may look like after pictures of the Chinese-spec model surfaced online earlier this year. Those photos showed a white Regal Sportback with performance front and rear fascias, different side skirts, black trim and wheels, red brake calipers and an offset ‘GS’ badge in the grille. This is simply an educated guess, but we’re willing to wager the U.S. spec model will appear similar if not identical.
If a 2018 Buick Regal GS does arrive, it could make its debut at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, or perhaps at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.
