2018 Audi RS5 Coupe Spotted Winter Testing

Almost every variant in the A5 range has now been revealed, but Audi Sport, formerly Quattro GmbH, has been holding out on us with the latest RS.

But we at least now have every assurance that Audi Sport isn’t just slacking, because spy photographers have caught the souped up Audi testing in the snow.

Despite the distinct dearth of RS5 in Audi dealerships, we know a surprising amount about the car thanks to leaked documents from a reader.

The RS5, and also the RS4 Avant for that matter, will be powered by the fruit of Audi and Porsche’s combined efforts, the manifestation of which is a new 2.9-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine. According to the leak, the new RS5 will produce 450 hp, which is, there’s no other word for it, disappointing. Although 450 is a big enough number for most applications, it’s the same amount as the outgoing RS5, and you could be forgiven for wanting more.

Audi Sport’s got you covered, though. Along with that 450 hp, the new RS5 will produce a healthy 446 lb-ft of torque, which is over 100 lb-ft more than the outgoer and as we all well know torque wins races.

All the extra torque should get the RS5 to 60 in fewer than four seconds (an improvement of at least half a second) and all the way up to a top speed of 155 mph, but the dynamic package will get allow you to hit roughly 175 mph.

Unfortunately, production isn’t planned until June of this year, but it is expected to be revealed in Geneva this March.
