2017 World Car of the Year Finalists Announced

Despite all the drama surrounding the Volkswagen Group, the German company has multiple nominations for the World Car of the Year Award.

The 2017 World Car Awards ceremony will be hosted at the 2017 New York Auto Show, where a jury of 75 distinguished international automotive journalists will reveal the winners for several World Car of the Year categories.

Leading the way for the 2017 World Car of the Year finalists is the Volkswagen Group with several nominees: Audi A5/S5 Coupe, Audi Q2, Audi Q5, Skoda Kodiaq, and Volkswagen Tiguan. Joining those vehicles are the Fiat/Abarth 124 Spider, Honda Civic, Jaguar F-Pace, Mazda CX-9 and Toyota C-HR.

The five finalists for 2017 World Luxury Car include the Bentley Bentayga, BMW 5 Series, Genesis G90, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Volvo S90/V90.

Competing for the 2017 World Performance Car are the Aston Martin DB11, Audi R8 Spyder, Honda/Acura NSX, McLaren 570S and Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman.

For eco-friendly car enthusiasts, the 2017 World Green Car finalists are the Chevrolet Bolt, Honda Clarity, Hyundai Ioniq, Tesla Model X and Toyota Prius Prime.

Not as relevant in North America, but the 2017 World Urban Car finalists include the BMW i3, Citroen C3, Ford KA+, Smart Cabriolet and Suzuki Ignis.

Lastly, the 2017 World Car Design of the Year finalists are the Audi A5/S5 Coupe, Jaguar F-Pace, Mazda CX-9, Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet and Toyota C-HR.
