A total of 33,131 Subaru Impreza vehicles are being recalled over an issue with stalling.
According to the Japanese automaker, the problem involves a loss of pressure from premature fuel vaporization, potentially causing the engine to stall. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), North American winter fuels may vaporize prematurely in the fuel line, under higher ambient temperature, low speed or stopped driving conditions. As a result, premature vaporization causes a decrease in fuel pressure that may result in rough idling, the inability to start the engine or engine stalling.
In some cases, if the engine was to stall, the driver may be unable to restart the vehicle for a certain period of time – increasing the risk of a crash.

Affected units include the Impreza sedan and five-door hatchback models and to resolve the issue, Subaru will reprogram the ECU to turn the radiator fan on at a lower temperature, free of charge. This will allow owners to use winter blend fuels without issue.
