2013-2015 Honda Accord, Crosstour Starter Issue

The problem: Affected vehicles may exhibit upon startup a grinding or whining noise from the starter area. This may be due to a faulty starter motor and incorrect positioning  of the torque converter ring gear, the gear with which the starter meshes to spin the engine at startup.

Vehicles affected by this service campaign:

  • 2013 Honda Accord
  • 2014 Honda Accord
  • 2015 Honda Accord
  • 2013 Honda Crosstour
  • 2014 Honda Crosstour
  • 2015 Honda Crosstour

Only vehicles equipped with a V-6 engine and automatic transmission.

Corrective action: Dealers will replace the starter motor and reposition the ring gear, which eliminates the condition.

Warranty info: This service campaign is being performed free of charge under the Honda new car or extended warranty, whichever applies.
