The problem: These vehicles may have a fuel or vapor leak from the fuel tank. This may be due to a cracked fuel tank inlet control valve. Vehicles that have had their fuel tank removed are especially at risk, as the tank-removal process can damage the inlet control valve. A vehicle with this problem may display an illuminated Service Engine Soon light on the dash, and fuel may leak on the ground between the rear tires during or after fueling. It may also emit a strong fuel odor from the rear of the vehicle.
