Volkswagen is nearing a fix for its affected 3.0-liter V6 diesel engines.
According to a recent report, Volkswagen’s proposed fix for its V6 oil burners will use a new catalytic converter along with a software patch. No final decision however has been reached between Volkswagen and U.S. regulators. The issue affects about 85,000 vehicles in the U.S. and includes V6-powered models from Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen.
Sources say that the timing of an agreement on the larger diesel engines will depend on a broader settlement over the cheating scandal in the U.S.

The German automaker currently faces a June 21 deadline to finalize an initial agreement to fix or buy back the 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engines. In the initial agreement proposed last month, Judge Charles Breyer temporarily set aside the 3.0-liter V6 engines since the four-cylinder issue affects about 480,000 vehicles.
The 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine is used in the Audi A6, A7, A8, Q5 and Q7 models, in addition to the Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg.
