The New Acura NSX's First North American Race will be Pikes Peak

The Acura NSX is getting set to make its North American racing debut by hurling up Pikes Peak.

Acura is competing in two different classes with two NSX supercars at the 100th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, both the Time Attack 1 and Time Attack 2 categories. The brand is also bringing along an NSX-inspired all-electric prototype vehicle that will use a four-motor Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system to propel it up the mountain.

Both of the NSX models coming to Pikes Peak have only been slightly modified compared to the standard car, with the changes including chassis lightening and a custom racing exhaust for the NSX competing in Time Attack 1. The car in Time Attack 2 has only had the appropriate safety equipment added. The cars will be driven by a set of brothers, James and Nick Robinson, who are part of Acura’s powertrain development group.

Honda campaigned an electric SH-AWD system last year in a CR-Z prototype, but for 2016, the powertrain will be three times more powerful and it will be wrapped in an NSX body.

The Pikes Peaks Hill Climb takes place on June 26, 2016.
