Spy Photographers Catch Next-Gen BMW 3 Series with Upgraded Interior

The 2018 BMW 3 Series is getting a few upgrades inside the cabin.

Spy photographers have caught the next-generation BMW 3 Series testing, and even managed to get a few photos of the updated interior. There’s a mixture of old and new parts inside the sedan, with an updated infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. Expect the infotainment system to feature voice activation and gesture control, and it is likely that BMW will outfit the popular sedan with a suite of advanced safety features including some semi-autonomous technologies.

The new 3 Series is said to ride on a longer wheelbase to give rear passengers more space, but it will weigh quite a bit less, thanks to a new carbon fiber-infused platform. The platform benefits from other materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic in addition to conventional steel that will help lighten the load on the 3 Series despite its increased size. It is also capable of supporting electrified powertrains.

Still heavily camouflaged, this particular prototype appears to have an M Sport front spoiler to give it more aggressive styling. But as you can expect with the 3 Series, styling changes will be evolutionary and it does appear to look lower and wider than before.

The next-generation BMW 3 Series is expected to make its debut sometime next year as a 2018 model.
