GM Recalls 780K Crossovers for Falling Liftgates

GM is calling back about 780,000 crossover over an issue with the liftgate.

In the affected vehicles, which include the 2008-2012 Buick Enclave, 2009-2012 Chevy Traverse, 2007-2012 GMC Acadia and 2007-2010 Saturn Outlook, the gas struts that hold up the liftgate can suddenly fail, causing the gate to quickly shut.

GM says it has 56 reports of injuries caused by this issue, which occurs because dirt works its way into the struts, wearing them out.

Dealers will replace the faulty struts and will revise the liftgate control motor to prevent the door from rapidly closing.

Vehicles with struts built after March 1, 2012 are not affected, as GM says these were installed differently and are less prone to dirt getting inside.
