Lyft confirmed earlier today it’s drivers would be the first to receive Chevrolet’s new battery electric Bolt this fall as the two companies cozy up closer.
There has been speculation the General would offer it’s first mass-scale BEV to Lyft’s army of independant contractors ever since General Motors invested $500-million in the ride-sharing service earlier this year.
At the World Mobility Leadership Forum in Detroit, Emily Castor, Lyft’s director of transportation, told “drivers on the Lyft platform will be receiving Bolts to drive first.”
Lyft will not be purchasing the cars for a corporate fleet, instead it will be offered to the company’s 315,000-strong driver network, across some 200 U.S. cities.
It’s still likely we won’t see the Bolt arriving in consumer hands en mass until at least January 2017.
