Chevrolet Equinox, Traverse Adds Flair with Special Edition Models

Chevrolet is expanding its lineup of special edition models to its SUVs.

The American automaker has announced the Equinox Midnight and Sport Editions, as well as the Traverse Graphite Edition, which will join the existing Trax Midnight Edition in a growing portfolio of Chevrolet special edition vehicles. According to Chevrolet, Equinox sales are up eight percent, while the Traverse had its best month ever with retail sales up 24 percent in July. Overall, Chevrolet retail crossover sales have increased 20 percent in July, for the best July in the company’s history.

To ensure it’s making the right decision, the automaker also revealed that special edition Chevrolet trucks are selling up to three times faster than the average truck and to younger, more affluent buyers. So in a way, it was a no-brainer for the company to expand its offerings to the Equinox and Traverse models.

The 2017 Equinox Midnight Edition features a Mosaic Black Metallic exterior, while the Sport Edition is finished in Summit White. Both can be had on the LT model and require the Convenience Package. Also included in the packages are a black grille and Chevrolet bowties, black 18-inch aluminum wheels, jet-black perforated leather-appointed seats, memory settings for the driver’s seat and exterior mirrors, as well as black mirror caps and roof rack crossbars.

As for the 2017 Traverse Graphite Edition, the package will only be available on the 2LT model and includes 20-inch Dark Charcoal wheels, dual exhaust, black Chevrolet bowties and integrated assist step. The Traverse Graphite Edition can be had in four different colors: Mosaic Black Metallic, Tungsten Metallic, Siren Red Tintcoat and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat.

“Special Editions resonate with buyers, offering a unique package with unique looks,” said Betsy Flegg, senior manager, Chevrolet SUVs. “We’ve already seen a strong interest with the Trax Midnight Edition when we announced production last December. We anticipate customers will strongly like the looks of the new Equinox Midnight and Sport Editions and Traverse Graphite Edition.”
