The Buick Regal sedan will reportedly be replaced by a hatchback and a wagon version.
It comes as a bit of a surprise that Buick plans on replacing the standard sedan with a five-door hatchback model, but it’s a move that coincides with the market shifting from cars to more spacious crossovers and SUVs. In addition to the five-door hatchback model, Buick will introduce its first wagon in two decades, the Regal TourX, based on the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer. According to , sales of midsize sedans in the U.S. have dropped for two consecutive years, and the segment is off 20 percent in the first two months of 2017.

While the new Opel Insignia models were shown at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show last week, the 2018 Buick Regal won’t make its debut until April 4 at GM’s Warren Technical Center. It will then be on display at the 2017 New York Auto Show.
Both models are expected to be produced by Opel in Germany and imported to the U.S.
The next-generation Regal sedan will still live on, but it will be produced in China and won’t be exported to the U.S. or Europe. Look for that to debut at the Shanghai Motor Show next month. Current production of the Regal is expected to end at GM’s plant in Oshawa, Ontario, this year.
