A new report claims that performance versions of the BMW X3 and X4 crossovers are coming.

According to BMW is moving forward with plans to release both an X3 M and X4 M, though it won’t be until 2018 at the earliest. A redesigned X3 is being released for 2017 (prototype seen above) riding on a new platform which will serve as the basis for the X3 and X4 M models.

Power will likely come from a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, with some reports claiming that 500 horsepower will be on tap. Weight loss of roughly 220 pounds is also expected, helping the new performance crossover hustle to top speed.

Like all other M models, you can also expect sport-focused upgrades including revised suspension, steering and braking along with a host of visual changes like lower skirts and a more aggressive looking front end.
