BMW M2 CS Brings the Heat During Winter Testing

The BMW M2 is getting a facelift and a hotter CS model could also be in the cards.

Spy photographers have caught an M2 CS prototype undergoing winter testing in northern Sweden and it features all the new parts that will come with the facelifted M2. Camouflaged on the M2 CS is a new front bumper, headlights, grille, tail lights and rear diffuser, all of which will make their way to the standard M2 model. Rumor has it that the M2 CS will also benefit from the more powerful engine found in the M3 and M4 models, but the German automaker will detune it to around 400 horsepower.

But what makes this the M2 CS model? Well, spy photographers point out that the prototype features an exhaust setup similar to what’s found on the M3 and M4, rather than what the standard M2 is equipped with. In addition, the DCT cooler has been moved, indicating that a different engine is being used under the hood. To differentiate between the standard M2 and the hotter M2 CS, the facelifted M2 will keep its current engine.

Expect to see some aerodynamic improvements with the CS model, as well as tweaks to the suspension for better handling. Look for the facelifted M2 to debut late this year while the M2 CS will show up in 2018.
