An Updated Mini JCW Looks Like it's on the Way

An updated version of the performance Mini JCW could be on the way, with a lightly camouflaged prototype having been photographed at the Nurburgring recently.

Appearance wise, the update appears to be pretty light. It looks as though Mini will apply the Union Jack-embedded taillights it has featured on concepts such as the Mini Superleggera Concept and the more recent Mini GP Concept. New headlights may also be in store, along with new available exterior colors and wheel options.

The majority of changes will happen under the hood. The 228 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will likely carry over into this updated model, but perhaps with a bit more power and torque on tap. We’re expecting the same six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions to be on offer as well, but BMW may replace the auto for something with a couple extra cogs.

The updated Mini JCW should arrive sometime in early-to-mid 2018 as a 2019 model year vehicle. It will likely be joined by updated versions of the regular Cooper, while production versions of the Mini GP and Mini Electric concepts may eventually arrive as well.
