Acura has followed up on its Precision Concept from earlier this year with the Precision Cockpit.
Making its debut at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show, the Acura Precision Cockpit is actually a near-production interior styling and technology concept that highlights three major themes in mobility innovation: electrification, automated driving and connectivity.
The focus of the Acura Precision Cockpit is its touchpad, which uses absolute position mapping for the first time in the driving environment, according to the Japanese automaker. It combines the flexibility and usability of a touchscreen with the comfort and reduced driver distraction of a remote-based approach. Through absolute positioning, the touchpad aligns precisely with the actions on the main display, which means every spot on the touchpad is mapped to a specific function on the main display, just like a touchscreen.

Also previewed by the Precision Cockpit is Acura’s next-generation operating system, based on Google’s Android. The OS will power two displays, one in the instrument panel with an ultra-clear, 12.3-inch driver’s display, while the other is a matching center display placed high in the cabin.
Acura also announced that the AcuraWatch suite of active safety and driver-assistive technologies has now been deployed on over 70,000 Acura vehicles.
