Acura brought its NSX GT3 race car to SEMA, and it used the facelifted MDX to get here.
OK, so that’s about as likely as me winding up behind the wheel of the NSX GT3 for some hot laps around Spring Mountain raceway. The car is, however, featured on an NSX-inspired, custom-fabricated trailer, towed by an MDX wrapped in a matching racing livery.
“SEMA is an opportunity to have some fun with customization concepts, and our approach this year is to showcase Acura’s performance direction by literally connecting our GT3 racing program to our production models,” Acura vice-president and general manager Jon Ikeda said in a statement.

The trailer incorporates design elements of both the NSX and MDX, including an undercarriage inspired by the race car’s roll cage and 20-inch accessory wheels adopted from the 2017 MDX, as well as running boards and a rear spoiler. Fully functional, it features a pair of hydraulic pumps powered by a 12-volt battery system that lift and lower the bed. It’s been powder-coated to match both vehicles.

The MDX tow vehicle, meanwhile, has been lowered by almost two inches, and rides on 20-inch wheels finished in black with orange center caps. It also features a carbon fiber front splitter inspired by the functional one on the NSX GT3.
The NSX display will also be used to announce the driver lineups for next year’s entries in both the Pirelli World Challenge and IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship.
