Acura ILX Likely to Get 2.0L Turbo Engine

Acura is looking to inject some excitement to its lineup in the near future.

With Honda preparing to introduce a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, enthusiasts can’t help but imagine that models from the Japanese automaker’s lineup will benefit from the new mill. Speaking to , Acura product planner Gary Robinson hinted that the new powerplant is a possibility for the entry-level ILX sedan.

“Acura is always going to get the best engines Honda makes,” said Robinson. More importantly he added, “Obviously, a 2.0-liter turbo is more of a must-have in the luxury world than it is in the mainstream world, so-.”

Expected to be introduced later this year, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine from Honda will likely be able to push out over 300 hp. With those sorts of power figures, Acura could bring out the turbo engine in a new ILX Type-S. Unfortunately though, Robinson made it clear that such an addition to the lineup won’t come until 2018 for the 2019 model year.

Honda is looking to re-engage its brand with tuners and car customizers worldwide. In the late 90s and early 2000s, Honda and Acura were the prominent Japanese automakers that tuners embraced but has since fallen in popularity. With the addition of a turbo-four straight from the factory, Honda hopes it can capture the attention of tuners especially with how potent and easily tuned turbocharged engines can be.
