A V8 Kia Stinger Could be Headed to North America

Kia is reportedly working on a V8 version of the Stinger performance sedan bound for North America.

Speaking to , Kia Australia general manager Kevin Hepworth said the 2.0-liter and 3.3-liter V6 engines would be the only engines offered with the Stinger in Australia, but that a V8 is being worked on for North America.

“I believe they’re developing one,” Hepworth said. “There may be a possibility the U.S. could pick it up. We’ve not heard about it [for Australia]. We haven’t entered into discussion for a V8.”

It seems likely that a Stinger V8 would utilize the 5.0-liter that was used in the Kia K900 and Hyundai Equus. That engine made 429 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque in its most powerful iteration and was linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s possible Kia could pull a little more power from it for the Stinger, but it’s much too early to say. It would also be a huge step for Kia if it were to introduce a lineup of higher-performance cars, just like BMW’s M division or Mercedes’ AMG, and a V8 would definitely fit into the picture.

We’ll be keeping an eye for an eight-cylinder Stinger in the coming months, so stay tuned for more info.
