2019 Audi A7 Test Car Goes Up in Flames During Testing

Things didn’t go as planned during some recent testing of the next Audi A7.

While testing in the Austrian Alps, an Audi A7 test car caught fire while pulling a dead weight trailer. It appears the prototype suffered some sort of catastrophic failure near the area where the hood meets the windshield. Fortunately, once the driver saw the flames, they turned around into a pull off and was able to get everything out of the vehicle. A roadside service employee attempted to put the fire out with an extinguisher, but that wasn’t enough to contain the fire as it started consuming the whole car.

Our spy photographers said it took about 15 to 20 minutes for the entire car to be completely destroyed by the fire, which was eventually put out when the fire department arrived. This does show how important road testing is before a vehicle heads to production, and hopefully Audi is able to determine the cause of the fire. Luckily no one was hurt in the incident.

Look for the next-generation Audi A7 to debut late this year or early 2018.
