Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is recalling 153,859 minivans in the U.S. to update certain software.
Reports of a possible engine stalling issue surfaced late last year and following an investigation by FCA, the American automaker has found “under a rare set of conditions, a vehicle’s engine control module (ECM) may incorrectly assess the engine’s operating status.” If that does occur, the engine can potentially stall.
According to FCA, most known occurrences happened at idle or while starting, turning, or driving at low, steady speeds. The company added that most were singular events that occurred over thousands of miles of travel, and most customers were able to restart their vehicle immediately afterward.

The automaker is aware of a single potentially related accident, and is unaware of any potentially related injuries.
The recall only affects the standard Pacifica minivan and not the Pacifica Hybrid. To resolve the issue, dealers will update the engine control software free of charge.
Outside the U.S., additional vehicles will be subject to recall in Canada (est. 7,457) and Mexico (est. 974) and certain markets outside North America (est. 245).
