2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible Offers Supercharged Droptop Fun

Chevrolet decided to also drop the top off the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at the 2016 New York Auto Show.

With the coupe model already generating plenty of buzz, the American automaker dropped the top on the convertible variant at the same show. According to Chevrolet, the convertible offers “comparable performance to the coupe model, thanks to the Camaro’s modular and rigid body architecture, which was designed at the outset to support a high-performance convertible.” That means the droptop version only has a few minor structural differences so that the coupe’s track-honed chassis and driver control systems carry over untouched.

Heading to dealerships early next year, pricing will be announced on the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 convertible closer to its launch. Chevrolet didn’t spill the details on its weight, but it’s likely performance differences will be negligible. Powering the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine with 640 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission. If you’re not in the mood to row your own gears, a paddle-shift 10-speed automatic is available as an option.
