Celebrating a Century of Ford Trucks

CARS.COM — It's been 100 years since the first Ford TT body rolled off the assembly line — Ford sent the chassis to coachbuilders and didn't offer its own bodywork until 1924 — and in honor of that anniversary, Ford invited the media to its headquarters in Dearborn, Mich., to get a chance to experience some classic trucks. Our sister site, PickupTrucks.com, has the details.

Aaron Bragman, our Detroit bureau chief, got the chance to ride along in the cab of a 1921 Ford TT truck. Mechanically identical to the 1917 model, this TT featured a cabin built in by an independent builder in Owosso, Mich., west of Flint.

The other classic on hand was a 1950 F-1, the first in the ongoing line of the famed F-Series. Bragman actually got the opportunity to drive this one. Some things to note: No power steering; a three-speed manual transmission without a 1st-gear synchromesh, so you have to come to a complete stop before shifting into 1st or Reverse; no sound-deadening insulation; an optional passenger-side windshield wiper to go along with the standard driver-side wiper. Oh, and its MSRP when new was an astronomical $1,100.

The F-1 is owned by Ford and will be used as part of Ford's promotional efforts for the upcoming 2018 F-Series.
