Probable BMW X2 Design Revealed in Patent Application

What is likely the finalized design for the upcoming BMW X2 has been revealed through newly discovered patent renderings.

The renderings were submitted to Japan’s patent office in February of this year and surfaced online this week. If accurate, they reveal the all-new BMW X2 will retain much of the concept’s styling cues, albeit in a more toned-down form.

The production X2’s headlamps and taillamps are not as sleek as the concept’s and the front end is noticeably more restrained. The huge dual exhaust tips of the concept have also been replaced with more restrained outlets and the large lower rear diffuser has been tossed out in favor of a more production-ready one. Apart from these changes, however, the X2 appears very similar to the concept.

Under the hood of the X2 should be BMW’s 230 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.  The automaker’s xDrive all-wheel drive system will probably be standard – just as it is in the X1.

The 2018 BMW X2 will likely be unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
