Most automakers yell from the nearest mountain when they set any type of record, but not Volvo.
A new video shows the automaker setting a lap record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the Volvo S60 Polestar, at the time claiming the four-door vehicle lap record with a time of 7:51.110 seconds.
After the WTCC race at the Nurburgring last year, Volvo’s racing arm, Cyan Racing, stuck around to see just how far it could push the S60 Polestar and ended up setting a lap record in the process. Volvo says that the secret testing was so important for its road cars and race cars that it kept the time a secret. With the 2017 WTCC race coming up this weekend, Volvo finally felt ready to release the time.

A few weeks after the record, Porsche showed up at the ‘Ring with its Panamera Turbo and set down a quicker lap, while in September, Alfa Romeo brought its Giulia Quadrifoglio to the Nurburgring and set the current record of 7:32.
Whatever the reason, we now know that Volvo secretly held this record, and now we get to watch the video footage to back up the claim.
