CARS.COM — Luxury brands are scurrying to bring new SUVs to shoppers, with Jaguar recently announcing its new E-Pace compact SUV. Volvo, which has spent the past few years revamping its SUV lineup with the XC90 and XC60, has another SUV in the works that will go up against the new Jag. In a statement, Volvo announced that its new XC40 small SUV is set to be revealed in the fall, and is the final piece of the automaker's SUV range.

The announcement comes a little more than a year after Volvo unveiled the Concept 40.1, which offered a glimpse of what a future small SUV from the Swedish brand might look like. Rather than release a traditional close-up teaser image of the XC40, Volvo detailed the SUV's broader range of exterior and interior color choices, including Lava Orange carpeting and Oxide Red upholstery.

In keeping with Volvo trim-name conventions, the XC40 will be offered in Momentum, R-Design and Inscription form, with Momentum versions offering the most eye-catching exterior color combinations. Drivetrain details were not announced, but Volvo has said that by 2019, all its models will incorporate an electric motor.
