CARS.COM — Volkswagen has released a new video that peels back the curtain of the design process for its upcoming subcompact crossover, the T-Roc. At this time, there's no official word on whether the T-Roc will make it to the U.S. (other news sources have reported a 2019 stateside arrival). Given our appetite for SUVs and crossovers, however, it seems unwise to bet against a U.S. release.

The video first spotlights the design of the exterior and interior from a structural standpoint, beginning with "sketches and scribbles" and ending with a fully realized model of the vehicle. From there it examines the process of selecting vehicle colors both inside and out, material selection and the design of the "human machine interface" — that is, the gauges, steering wheel, multimedia system and the various controls accessible to the driver and passengers.
The description on YouTube reveals that the T-Roc will debut Aug. 23. Check out the video below for more on what Volkswagen designers do to bring a car from paper to the road.
