Toyota is expanding its Takata airbag recall once again to 2.9 million more vehicles in Japan, China, Australia, and more.
Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Hino are similarly recalling about 240,000 vehicles because of the faulty airbags.
Toyota’s recall affects vehicles such as the Corolla Axio and the RAV4. Toyota said that about 750,000 of vehicles are being recalled in Japan, while more than 1 million are being recalled in Australia, the Middle East, and other small markets.
This latest round of recalls does not apply to the US, but it is related to the global Takata recall that rocked the automotive industry.

Takata and the many automakers that use the brand have been forced to recall nearly 100 million vehicles due to the unsafe inflators and at least 16 deaths (most of them in the US) have been linked to the faulty part.
The inflators use a chemical compound that becomes unstable over time when it’s exposed to that can explode with excessive force when exposed to heat.
Last month, Takata pleaded guilty to felony charges in the U.S. as part of a $1 billion settlement over the faulty inflators.
