Kelley Blue Book has announced its Best Resale Value Award winners for 2017.
Not all vehicles depreciate equally, so picking a vehicle with excellent resale value is a wise decision. The 2017 Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards take into account current vehicle data, sales data, market conditions for each vehicle, competition within vehicle segments, expectations of the future economy and the combined experience of Kelley Blue Book’s team of market and pricing analysts.

Each year, Kelley Blue Book names the top 10 cars and just like past years, trucks and SUVs continue to dominate the list. According to Kelley Blue Book, these 10 vehicles will return an average of 50 percent to their owners’ pockets after 60 months, much better than the average 33 percent.
10. 2017 Subaru WRX
With the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution now gone from the world, the Subaru WRX remains one of the few all-wheel-drive sports sedans for the enthusiast market. With a cult-like following, the Subaru WRX has excellent resale value, returning 55.2 percent after 36 months and 45.4 percent after 60 months.
9. 2017 GMC Canyon
GMC’s version of the Chevrolet Colorado is a wise investment, retaining 59.8 percent of its value after 36 months. After five years of ownership, it’ll return 47.2 percent, giving it exceptional resale value.
8. 2017 GMC Sierra
Like the Canyon, the GMC Sierra is the automaker’s version of the popular Chevrolet Silverado. There’s a bit of luxury for those that opt for the Denali variant, helping appeal to a broader range of buyers. After 36 months, owners can expect to get back 56.8 percent while 60 months returns 47.5 percent.
7. 2017 Honda Ridgeline
The Honda Ridgeline returns to the list this year with the introduction of an all-new model. It continues to offer excellent resale value, returning 64.4 percent after 36 months and 47.6 percent after 60 months.
6. 2017 Chevrolet Colorado
The Chevrolet Colorado midsize truck returned from hiatus a couple of years ago and since then, it has been on Kelley Blue Book’s top 10 resale values list. Owners can expect it to return 61.3 percent after 36 months or 48.1 percent after 60 months.
5. 2017 Toyota Tundra
The Toyota Tundra might not be the best-selling pickup out there, but its reputation for reliability and strong resale values help it remain a viable contender in the segment. It holds 60.7 percent of its value after 36 months and 49 percent after 60 months.
4. 2017 Jeep Wrangler
Who doesn’t love a Jeep Wrangler? The off-road capable SUV likely brings plenty of joy to drivers, but it also helps knowing that it holds 63.7 percent of its value after 36 months. Even five years later, owners can expect a return of 51.5 percent.
3. 2017 Chevrolet Silverado
The second-best-selling vehicle in the U.S., the Silverado trails only the Ford F-150 when it comes to units sold on American soil. What it does better, however, is its resale value, returning 61.8 percent after 36 months or 52.2 percent after 60 months.
2. 2017 Toyota 4Runner
Like its pickup trucks, the Toyota 4Runner SUV is a popular choice among buyers for its reliability and ruggedness. It’s also one of the last of its kind with more automakers switching to crossovers and sharing platforms. And because of that, the 4Runner retains its value, holding strong at 64.3 percent after 36 months and 54.5 percent after 60.
1. 2017 Toyota Tacoma
The vehicle with the best resale value for 2017 is the Toyota Tacoma. Even though it got an extensive redesign last year, the Tacoma stays on top of Kelley Blue Book’s Resale list, returning an impressive 71.8 percent after 36 months or 58.4 percent after 60 months of ownership.
