The Lexus GS may not be long for this world.

According to Japanese enthusiast magazine Lexus officials have cancelled the GS over concerns it will steal sales from the new LS flagship. The sedan segment as a whole has been declining globally, and since the new LS will offer a basic V6 option, Lexus doesn’t see the need for two sedans.

The next GS was supposed to arrive in 2018, so the current car will stay on sale for at least another year. A new small crossover called the UX is coming from Lexus and getting rid of the GS will free up some capacity. There could be also be an all-new vehicle that replaces the GX, though exactly what form it would take is unknown.

This isn’t the first time the GS model has been on the chopping block, as Toyota boss Akio Toyoda fought against its redesign back in 2011.
