The slow drip of information on the Dodge Demon continues today, bringing the news that the car will be able to run on 100+ octane fuel, provided you swap the brain.
This will be the first factory production car that will be able to switch from 91-octane to 100+ octane, made possible by a new powertain control module (PCM) which must be installed on the car when it’s time to hit the drag strip. The new PCM will be included in the “Demon Crate,” a set of performance parts and tools that come with the car to transform it from street-legal to drag-strip ready.
Switching over to the special PCM optimizes the engine to use the high-octane fuel by changing the spark timing, which should help with elapsed time at the drag strip. There is also a new button in the center stack, marked HO, which lets the car know you are running high-grade gas.

Dodge says that mixing fuels with different octane ratings won’t be an issue in the Demon either, as the car continually monitors the engine’s knock sensors and will not run on fuel with an octane rating that is too low.
Finally, it has been revealed that the Demon will have dual fuel pumps, compared to the single pump in the SRT Hellcat, along with larger fuel injectors using higher rail pressure.
No special easter eggs were included in this week’s teaser video, but based on a previous teaser, it is believed that the Demon will be rated at 757 horsepower when running on 91-octane fuel and 815 hp when running on the 100 octane.
