The Chevy Cavalier is Back…In China

Chevrolet is resurrecting the Cavalier badge for a China-only small car.

Thanks to leaked brochure images from we have out first glimpse at what the Chinese-market Cavalier will look like, and not unexpectedly it appears to be a slightly revised Cruze. The Cavalier is 178-inches long, 69-inches wide and 57-inches tall, making it a few inches smaller than the Cruze all around.

A 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 109 horsepower will propel the small car, mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. This car will be offered as an entry-level option for those who want something more affordable than the Cruze.

Reintroducing the Cavalier means that Chevy is reigniting a battle that was once fought in North America, as the Chevy Cavalier’s main competitor in China will be the Ford Escort, a smaller and cheaper version of the Ford Focus.

Both the Escort and Cavalier will be for China only and there’s no evidence to suggest that they would leave that market.
