Tesla CEO Elon Musk is saying it’s “seriously next level.”
With the Tesla Model III set to enter series production in the near future, the automaker is putting attention on its next new model, a semi truck. Although little is known about the semi truck, you can expect it to feature an all-electric powertrain and Musk has said the team “has done an amazing job,” so there’s likely some next-generation technology heading its way.
Last July, Musk outlined Tesla’s master plan and said at the time, he believed all-electric heavy-duty trucks were needed in the marketplace: “We believe the Tesla Semi will deliver a substantial reduction in the cost of cargo transport, while increasing safety and making it really fun to operate,” he said. There’s little reason to believe it won’t also feature all of Tesla’s autonomous driving technologies.

In a follow up tweet, Musk also shared that the Tesla pickup truck will be unveiled in 18 to 24 months, a model that will cater to a larger audience than the semi truck coming this year.
