It looks like BMW is getting another strange crossover ready for production, this time the small and stylish X2, captured here by our spy photographers.
A car that likely no one knew they wanted, the X2 is the sportier version of the new X1. It shares the same front-wheel drive based platform as the X1 and its MINI cousins. It will also likely be offered with the same powertrains, meaning a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine turbocharged to makes 228-hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
Design-wise, this prototype spied testing, seems to lack the coupe-ish roofline of the X4 and X6, but instead has a lower roof altogether.
Rumors hint that a M model of the X2 could be in the works, in addition to a plug-in hybrid model, but we’ll wait for the official introduction of the standard X2 before spreading all the wild speculation.
