We’ve just gotten our hands on spy shots of the all new Audi A8, spotted turning in laps at the Nurburgring.

This is the fourth generation of Audi’s full size sedan, and the first car designed from scratch under new head of design, Marc Lichte.

The new A8 looks to be about the same size as the outgoing model, but thanks to its new MLBevo platform, which currently underpins the Q7, the A4, and even the Bentley Bentayga, the A8 should see weight reduction.

The MLB platform gives the A8 access to a plug-in hybrid powertrain as well a range of traditional diesel and gas powered engines. No North American details are confirmed yet, but a familiar range of engines is expected, with a 600hp W12 engine rumored to be at the top.

Under the camouflage it’s hard to tell exactly what the car looks like, but what can be seen looks fairly similar to the Audi Prologue concept with a very wide grille and sharp headlights.

Audi have confirmed that they will launch the new A8 some time in 2017.
