SUVs and crossovers, everybody seems to love these versatile vehicles. There are big ones and small ones, efficient offerings and still others that can tow mountains.

Of course, there are a handful of these vehicles that are designed for off-roading, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Land Rover Discovery Sport. Neither of these vehicles is afraid to sling a little mud.

The ‘Rover in the faceoff features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder; it’s the only engine offered. Still, it provides a respectable 240 horsepower with 250 lb-ft of twist. It’s matched to a nine-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

With a wheelbase of 107.9 inches and an overall length of 180.7, the Discovery is a little bit smaller than the GRAND Cherokee, which has a 114.8-inch span between its hubs and a body that stretches just shy of 190 inches.

This Jeep’s base engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that’s good for 295 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque, but you can also get a 5.7-liter V8, a diesel and even a 6.4-liter Hemi in the sporty SRT model. No matter which engine you choose, they’re all matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In keeping with its rich heritage, several four-wheel-drive systems are available, including a rock-bashing Quadra-Drive II system with low-range gearing and an electronic limited-slip rear differential. For maximum efficiency you can also get a two-wheel-drive Grand Cherokee… but what’s the point of that?!

As for pricing, an entry-level Discovery Sport can be yours for around $38,000. As for the Jeep, in most basic Laredo trim they start at about 30 grand.

As you can see, either of these vehicles will handle sloppy weather and off-road driving with ease, the only question is, which one do YOU prefer? Well, compare them here for more information and make sure to vote in the poll down below!
